Day 2 | Kabul - Bamyan
Depart Kabul early morning for our
road trip to central province Bamyan.
We will arrive at the Gholghola Hotel for
our stay here in Bamyan and we will have lunch as soon as we get to the hotel. After
having lunch our guide will take you to Shar-e-Ghoghola (the City of
Screams) where you will find only the ruins of a 12th-century modern
city. On a commanding rise, Shahr-e Gholghola
was reputedly the best-defended of Bamyan’s royal citadels and was captured by
intrigue rather than force of arms. We will continue our journey out to Shahr-e
Zuhak, also known as The Red City. The archaeological remains of Shahr-e Zohak
are part of the Bamyan valley, which has been recognized by UNESCO as World
Heritage and is famous for hosting the main heritage of the Buddhist culture in
Afghanistan. The site comprises the remains of the Zohak fortress.
Dinner & overnight in Bamyan
Day 3 | Bamyan & Band e Amir
Explore the six deep blue lakes of
Band-e-Amir as they are separated by natural barriers composed of travertine, a
mineral deposit. Band-e Amir was to become Afghanistan’s first National Park in
the 1960s but this was delayed due to successive political crises and decades
of war. Fortunately, it was declared as a National Park and World Heritage
Site on Earth Day in 2009. Since 2013 it has become a popular destination
for both Afghan and international visitors. After visiting the national park to our hotel in Bamyan for the night.
Dinner & overnight in the provincial center at Gholghola Hotel, Bamyan.
Day 4| Visiting Buddahs & back to Kabul
The last day in Bamyan city will start from the
hotel and our driver will drop you in front of a tall carved empty cave once
known Buddhas. Built in the 6th century, the Buddhas
of Bamiyan were two monumental-sized statues carved into the sandstone
cliffs of the Bamyan valley in central Afghanistan. In their Roman draperies
and with two different mudras, the statues were great examples of
a confluence of Gupta, Sassanian, and Hellenistic artistic styles. Called
Salsal and Shamama by the locals, they rose to heights of 55 and 38 meters
respectively. Salsal means “the light shines through the universe”, while
Shamama is “Queen Mother”.
We will leave Bamyan by the mid-day for Kabul
and we will try to cover the remaining sightseeing in Kabul City considering the tickets booked for the flight to leave Afghanistan.
Dinner & overnight in the capital city of Kabul.
End of the Band-e-Amir National Park Tour.
